ABOUT THE 2015 NEPAL (GORKHA) EARTHQUAKE - FACTS AND FIGURES

The Gorkha Earthquake occurred on the 25th of April 2015, and with a 7.8 MMS rating, was the worst natural disaster to strike Nepal since its 1934 earthquake. It triggered two avalanches - one causing 19 deaths on Mount Everest, the other in the Langtang Valley, where 250 people were eventually reported missing. However, the damage didn't stop there - aftershocks lasted for 15-20 minutes afterwards, one of them reaching 7.3 MMS; rendering 2,500 people injured and 200 more dead.

Airports were made to close, schools and churches were crushed, and entire villages were flattened during the quake.

The exact number of buildings destroyed in the earthquake is still unknown, although an estimate puts the number at around half a million, due to whole villages having been flattened.
